Experiments again

The last few days this week, saw our class tackle some more experiments.

This time the focus was on the Scientific Method.

Students used the step by step process as outlined in this template.

The process begins with thinking about something that you would like to learn about which requires finding a true purpose for your learning. A question is then developed.

The next step requires researching the topic to develop knowledge and design a hypothesis to test.

Once a hypothesis is agreed upon, students then begin the process of experimentation to prove or disprove their hypothesis.

There was a real buzz of excitement in our room whilst students worked on their own group's experiment, but as time went on they also became curious about the other experiments going on in the room and began questioning and seeking answers in regards to other topics.

Throughout this process students observed and recorded what was going on and then drew some conclusions.

The last step was to design a blog post that records the Scientific Method that they could personalise for themselves.

As quite a few students left early for the break this week, we will share our results and conclusions when we return so that we all benefit from the knowledge and experience gained.

Here are some photos to share the fun we had:

What reacts with coke best , mentos or chewing gum to create a volcano effect?

Can you use a material, other than baking soda,  that will cause the same reaction when mixed with vinegar?
What other materials create the same effect as effervescent tablets to create a lava lamp?

Can chewing gum actually clean teeth?
 How does water move?

Preparing water experiment
A little while after
5 hours after

Can you make glowing water without black light?
 Can we create quicksand?
