Experiments

These last few days students have been working in groups of three to design an experiment that shows either a change in materials or cause and effect.

First of all, with the help of Ms. Marcelle we looked at a science procedure to discover  the language features of procedural texts.

After lots of discussion, we then created a checklist to remember all the features.

We compared these features to those from Writing Fun and added further details to our checklist.

We applied this knowledge to our own experiments and wrote our own procedures.

On Monday afternoon, we tested our experiments and a lot of students had to adjust their procedural documents when the testing did not go to plan.

On Tuesday afternoon, after completing our procedural texts, we prepared our experiments again, so that we could share them with our G1 buddies. Once again, students had to think on their feet and make further adjustments in order to provide a true scientific moment for their buddies.

G1 students were delighted about what they witnessed and it was great to see them prepared to get their hands gooey and messy.

Take a look at the pictures below.

Our next step is to peer assess our work and decide what type of change occurred or to establish how one aspect of their experiment was the trigger that caused something else to happen.
