We use a programme known as 6 Traits which means that we focus on one writing traits at a time with an aim to improve the quality of each trait.
For the next few weeks we will focus on the trait of IDEAS.
We began with reading the story: NOTHING EVER HAPPENS ON 90TH STREET
After we finished reading we discussed the process the character went through to complete her writing task assigned by her teacher.
The main character, Eva who tells the story, gained lots of advice from her neighbours, who in the end enabled her to write a story that covered the following advice and was certainly a well written story.
- Write about what you know.
- Observe carefully and don’t neglect the details.
- Find the poetry: a new way with old words.
- Use your imagination.
- Ask, “What if?”
- Add a little action.
We then created our own list of places to visit in our school, so that we can work towards writing our own story: NOTHING EVER HAPPENS AT ISPP.
Watch this space for the results, but in the meantime, enjoy the photos below of G5MMs on an ISPP walkabout to gather our ideas.
