Minecraft

The past two weeks, we have been learning how to use Minecraft for educational purposes.

Mr. Matt created a virtual world using Minecraft to help the students understand the perspectives of animal poaching. We broke into two teams, Rangers and Poachers. Our aim was to protect the invented 'Mooshroom' animal.

We learnt how to protect the mooshroom by catching poachers using a variety of methods and tools, as well as learning how to breed the mooshroom and create sanctuaries to keep them safe.

It was definitely a challenge, but certainly one that all students rose to.

We even managed to do the tasks more quietly second time round, which is a real feat in itself, as the nature of Minecraft creates excitement and engages a spirit of enthusiasm!

The debriefing afterwards certainly raised issues and encouraged conversations to help students understand the real world opportunities and challenges that exist.

We hope to continue our learning experience, so we get a chance to swap roles and see what comes from that.
