Last Friday our students were exposed to a variety of photos that related to migration. For each photo, students wrote about what they saw, they thought and what they wondered about.
Next they had to try and make connections with what their peers had written, either through giving their opinion, agreeing with what they had read or providing another perspective.
Students then worked with a peer from each class, chose a photo and had to decide whether that photo was appropriate for the beginning, middle or end of a story.
Once that was decided, students worked collaboratively to create their own story, adding beautiful illustrations that worked effectively with the words to tell a migration story.
The last stage of the exercise was to share their stories with their peers and teachers in small groups, explaining why they chose the placement of the photos, how they developed their ideas and how they revealed the lines of inquiry through their story.
Students completed this learning experience with reflecting on what they had learnt from each other, how they collaborated together and how their knowledge of the lines of inquiry is developing.
Here are some photos for you to enjoy!
The end products will shortly be displayed in all of the G5 classrooms!
