What a week Grade 5!

Well, what a week it has been!

We began the week with being exposed to four reasons for migration through teacher presentations as follows:

  1. Natural Disaster
  2. Economic
  3. Educational
  4. Refugee
We wanted students to be exposed to both forced and voluntary migration, as we had learnt the week before that 97% of migration is voluntary.

From that students made a choice of which type they would investigate further.

I was impressed that some students were willing to change their focus, so that we could make sure that as a class we could learn about all four types, through sharing our knowledge further along the inquiry cycle.

We then linked our findings to our inquiry through reading stories together and gathering ideas via the internet.

We are now at the point where we will begin to get ideas for our own story and will work as a class and in groups to model how to achieve a strong narrative through sharing ideas and creating stories together.

We will continue to read stories together as a class and hold reading conversations to further develop and articulate our own ideas.

In addition, throughout the week we rehearsed for our assembly piece. We created the actions and how to present the song your saw at assembly together and students have worked hard to learn the lyrics, created by Mr James, in a short space in time!

We teachers were very proud indeed with the enthusiasm and commitment our students revealed today and throughout the whole process.

Furthermore, today, was the NGO Fair.

First up, we learnt some rugby skills from Kampuchea Balopp on the field, got to communicate with 17 NGOs to learn what they do and how they take action, as well as seeing projects that secondary students have worked on with NGOs last year. G7 and G9 students presented and got us actively involved in an activity to educate us on an issue of interest to them.

Our students should be very tired tonight, as we walked from one end of the campus to the other multiple times.

Here are some photos of the day:
