Nurse Alison Visits

The Eatwell Plate
The eatwell plate highlights the different types of food that make up our diet, and shows the proportions we should eat them in to have a healthy, balanced diet.

Today, Nurse Alison came to talk to us about Healthy Eating.

We discussed the various food groups and looked at the food plate below to ascertain what healthy food looks like and to discuss the proportions that are needed to create a balanced diet.

We also discussed what a balanced diet looks like and chatted about how to apply that to our daily life.

We then talked about what to do at lunchtime when we have the responsibility of choosing food from the cafeteria menu.

This brought up another discussion about how much food is wasted each day and our students were quite concerned about what they have witnessed.

This will hopefully inspire them to lead by example each day in the cafeteria.

At the end, Max suggested, because Nurse Alison mentioned an idea that eating food that are the colours of the rainbow can help provide us with a more balanced diet, that we write down all the foods that are the colours of the rainbow.

So, in the end we created our own food rainbows to hang in the class to remind us to think about eating a more balanced diet!

I will post pictures of our rainbows when they are finished.
