Guest Speakers

During the last two weeks, we have had guest speakers come to visit us to discuss different issues that exist in Cambodia.

Here are some of our students' summaries of each visit.

Mr Ray Cantwell

Mr. Ray Cantwell came to talk to us about sanitation. He mentioned that 97% of water in the world is undrinkable and only 3% is drinkable. This is not a lot, so we all need to stop using so much water. He also said that we are building to many dams in rivers.

- Lisa.C.

Mr.Ray talked to us about how many people don’t have access to fresh water and water systems. He goes around communities so that everyone can access fresh water.

Kristin Dadey

All humans have rights. We are born with rights but in refugee camps most human rights are being denied. There is no real difference between a refugee and the rest of the population, they are just as human. Most refugees are children, spending their days hoping for their rights to be accepted.

- Summer Rose

Refugees are increasing every day. Now there are more than 59.5 million refugees and that number is still increasing. Every day, 60,000 more refugees are coming to countries for help. This is the most refugees in history.

Mr. Reefat and Ms. Irene

Mr. Reefat and Ms. Irene talked about Child rights. They say that every kid should have access to a home, water, food, education and healthcare. They said that the convention of child rights has been signed by every country but the U.S. They want every kid to have these rights for a brighter future.
- Haziq

Mr. Reefat and Ms. Irene came to show and tell us about 'Save the Children'. They showed us the convention on the rights of the child which is like a promise that lets all children have their rights, like the right to play, eat, drink have medical care etc. They were really nice and I found out that they work with Unicef.

Ms. Amy Van Nice

The biggest threats to Cambodian wildlife are forest destruction, loss of habitat, hunting and animal trafficking. Wildlife alliance has a 24 hour hotline where you can reach special animal rescue crew. They’ll recover the animals, treat them medically and help them to be wild again.
- Summer Rose

Yesterday morning, Ms Amy Van Nice from Wildlife Alliance to talk to us about her NGO (Wildlife Alliance) and how she help animals. Approximately 60,000 live animals were rescued from the illegal wildlife trade. Wildlife Alliance works with local communities and governments to complete their projects. She also mentioned Cambodia’s most at-risk species which are the indochinese tiger, asian elephant, pangolin, sun bear, the pileated gibbon and the royal turtle.
- Morakod

The wildlife alliance and rapid rescue team (WRRT) have created sustainable livelihoods for endangered animals. Since 2001, they have arrested 2,500 offenders, preserved 1,700,000 acres of forest land. It is very hard for them, but they are able to do it. Most issues for Wildlife Alliance are in Cambodia.
